No matter how much you may love your car, the fact of the matter is that sometimes you will need to repair it. While some things you may know how to repair yourself, there are other times, such as when the vehicle needs speedometer repair florida, when you will be completely unsure as to how to proceed. Here are some troubleshooting tips regarding speedometers that will help you to get your car back up and running properly in no time at all.

The speedometer will vary depending upon the age of the care. Vehicles built before the year 1990 made use of a special cable to power the speedometer. If this is the age of your car and your speedometer is not properly functioning, check to make sure the cable is not worn and that there is no visible slack in it. If either of these things is true, then the cable will need to be replaced.

For cars newer than 1990, they will make use of a special computer chip called a speed sensor. Technically, this chip is known as a vehicle speed sensor, or VSS, for short. The purpose of this sensor is to gauge how fast certain gears within the transmission are turning. This information is subsequently sent back to the speedometer which will then display the speed of the vehicle. There are two easy ways to troubleshoot the speedometer if it is powered by a chip. The first method is to locate the chip on the transmission and check to see if it loosened, cracked, or even if it unreasonably dirty. If it is, it will need to be replaced. The second method is to plug the vehicle in a computer scanner. These are widely available at any car parts store. This scanner will run a diagnostics check on the vehicle and will then give you a code that tells you precisely what is wrong with the speedometer. Along with any other problems the car may be facing.
